In this video, I consider the philosophy of Byung-Chul Han and his book Absence. In the book, Han points out that far-eastern culture is focused on absence, emptiness, nothingness and the way, whereas western culture is focused on accumulation, being and possessions. This has huge implications for how we live our lives.

This builds on other videos I’ve made of Han regarding his books The Burnout Society, Transparency Society, Infocracy, Saving Beauty and the Agony of Eros. Han is a German, South-Korean born philosopher who releases short, daring books that cover some of the most pressing issues of our time, including technology, society and meaning.
