ネイサン・チェン「スケートは確実に続けていきたいと思っている」絵本発売記念トーク



国内各地で開催されている真夏の祭典であるアイスショー「ＴＨＥ　ＩＣＥ」に出演している北京五輪男子金メダリストのネイサン・チェン（２４）が７月３１日、自身著作の絵本「ウェイと金のスケートぐつ」（新書館から８月１日発売、ロレイン・ナム絵、すがのりこ訳）のトークイベント＆お渡し会を都内で行い、ファンら約１００人を楽しませた。

    Thank you all so much for coming to this event. it’s amazing to be able to see you all here and I’m really lucky to be here, I’m really lucky to be in Japan. I’ve been in Japan for quite a while now and it’s been super fun so i really enjoy being here.

    ~ what inspired me to write a picture book ~

    I wanted to be able to have something that a younger version of myself would’ve really appreciated, and I think growing up i didn’t really get to see much Asian skaters in the children’s book format. So I hope that there’s, y’know a young skater that can see my book and see a version of themselves in the book, and so that they’re hopefully helped or inspired by it.

    ~in a year at The Ice currently being held co-starring with Shona Uno for the first time

    I really like skating with Shoma. He he’s very clean, very flowy, so i have to try to not really compliment his [unintelligible] try to like mirror him, but at the same time still maintain my own skating style. But I think it’s cool, you can learn a lot from skating with other skaters. And oftentimes when we’re competing we don’t have the opportunity to really skate one-on-one, we never have the opportunity to skate one-on-one with each other
