The first time I heard the Vitali Chaconne in G minor, I was in the first semester of my Masters Degree: I actually heard it twice in the span of a week, the first time I believe was Randall Goosby playing it on Violin and the second time Lorna McGhee who I had a opportunity to playing in a masterclass with her (she was Principal Flute with the Pittsburgh Symphony at the time; She’s now the Principal Flutist of the Boston Symphony).
    The way I describe this piece is Death and Transformation. For me, it’s one of the pieces that you can listen to when you’re going through a hard time and you can rise from the ashes. I had the opportunity to hear Ray Chen perform the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
