  1. I know he is with Jesus because he was a Christian. I read his personal testimony. What people don't realise about the Turtles is that they were teenagers making music for teenagers. A lot of bands were very young in those days. The McCoys were the same. Mark already made three albums before he was 20!

  2. Back in the late 80's, I used to occasionally hang with the late Ray Herr from the Ides of March. Once in a while I would sit in at his solo acoustic shows. Some people (and I am not one of them) used to think that I bore a resemblance to Mark Volman. Ray used to love to tell people that I was Mark. I had to deny that numerous times 😮

  3. I was just watching some of the 2025 Happy Together all-star tour the other day!

By the way, I highly recommend the 1991 documentary on The Turtles, which includes members Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan hilariously explaining their horrible record deal at the end.

  4. I agree with you! I am so glad that I got to see the last Happy Together tour where both Howard and Mark were together. Another great song of theirs is She's My Girl.

  5. Yes Dave, the Turtles were masters of melody, great classic singles, lots of hidden gems, even their albums were great. and they weren't an opening act for Zappa, they were members of the Mothers of invention. In fact they were on stage when they burned down the gambling house in montreax, an incident immortalized in Deep Purple's classic hit smoke on the water. After that incarnation of the Mothers ended, Flo and Eddie continued as a moderately successful touring band. And since Frank Zappa is in the hall of Fame, technically Flo and Eddie are in with Zappa, because they were a part of FZ 's legacy. The Turtles were looked down upon by the rock critics, especially Rolling Stone, because they were top-40 too pop commercial bubblegum, not a heavy counterculture band breaking new musical boundaries. Even their stint with Zappa happened right when Zappa started getting bad reviews. But yes they were great, and their Flo and Eddie albums are worth a listen. Keep Her Warm was a great song that should have been a hit single back in 1976, Google Flo and Eddie moving targets, lots of great melody. And I got to see the Turtles on the same bill with the Grass Roots, Tommy James, the Buckinghams , & Gary Lewis & the Playboys back in the early 80s. Rest in peace Mark…

  6. The Turtles weren’t from my generation as I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, but I always gravitated towards 60’s music and The Turtles were always in my top favorite bands of all time. Their vocals and harmonies were top notch. They had a string of top 40 hits in their short run.
I learned that Volman and Kaylan (Flo and Eddie) sang background on Springsteen’s “Hungry Heart.” That’s my favorite Springsteen tune and those background vocals are what makes that song so great in my opinion.
If the hall of fame is going to induct one hit wonder rap groups, then The Turtles deserved to be inducted years ago. Rest In Peace, Mark. Thanks for all the awesome music you gave us.
