Song Hye Kyo has acknowledged that she is getting older and has revealed the most important person in her life.
She stated that portraying mature roles is much more challenging because she lacks personal experiences and understanding of the difficulties people over 40 face in life. According to Wikitree, during her interview with JTBC, Song Hye Kyo appeared as a mature woman. She was honored as the Outstanding Lead Actress at the Baeksang Arts Awards for her role as Moon Dong Eun in “The Glory in Hatred.”
During her acceptance speech, Song Hye Kyo shed tears of joy for being recognized by the audience. In the JTBC interview, the actress expressed her gratitude and sincere love for her family, especially her devoted mother who has always supported her.
“To me, there is nothing more important than being a happy mother. My mother loves watching ‘The Glory in Hatred.’ Her approval means a lot to me, even more than praise from the media. Previously, I always worried about how the audience would react to my films. But now, I realize that my mother’s perspective is what matters most,” said Song Hye Kyo. According to Wikitree, “The Glory in Hatred” is the work that helped Song Hye Kyo gain recognition for her true acting at the age of 40. The actress faced challenges as her character aged. She mentioned that in the past, she thought the older she got, the more experienced she would become, but realistically, portraying mature characters presented new challenges.
“When I was in my 20s, I always thought I would be as good as my seniors. Now that I’m 40 and portraying an older character, I find acting not as easy. As my character ages, I find it more difficult to connect with their experiences,” Song Hye Kyo explained.
Having lived through her 20s, the actress said she could easily relate to younger characters. However, she doesn’t know what experiences she will go through in the future, let alone what her character at her age will experience. Therefore, she has to continuously study and research to authentically portray the essence of each character.
Looking back on her film career journey, the actress emphasized that receiving awards is not just a personal achievement. It is evidence of the collaborative efforts of the entire team behind “The Glory in Hatred.” Despite previous successes, Song Hye Kyo admitted that she is ambitious and wants to take on various genres.
“I don’t believe I received this award solely because of my good acting. The film’s content deserves praise, and its success is thanks to the collective effort of the cast, director, and talented screenwriter. I want to share this happiness with them because I know I still have many shortcomings,” shared the actress of “Happy Home.”
Song Hye Kyo also mentioned that she desires change, and “The Glory in Hatred” provides her with the opportunity. It is an adventurous journey she has been eagerly awaiting. “This challenge was demanding, and at times, I doubted myself when portraying the character. In the end, I felt satisfied and thrilled. I hope the excitement and novelty will please the audience,” added the actress.
The screenwriter of “The Glory in Hatred” is Kim Eun Sook, the person behind the success of “Descendants of the Sun” where Song Hye Kyo starred.
