An erhu player who can convey both calm and passionate messages through music. Her erhu tones know no limits or borders, and have the power to resonate in people’s hearts, sometimes bringing back memories that had been long forgotten somewhere.
Born in Suzhou, China. After graduating from the Shanghai Dramatic School, she became a soloist at the famous Shanghai Yue Opera Theater, where she played until she came to Japan, in 1991. In 1997 she graduated from the Kyoritsu Women’s University.
In 2001, her album “I Wish” played a vital role in starting the “erhu boom” in Japan. Doing a wide range of activities, often overcoming genres, and cooperating proactively with other top artists, she usually performs on stage, for TV shows, movies, theater plays, musicals and also composing melodies.
Some of her representative pieces are the ending theme of NHK’s sports TV show “Sport Continent”, the main themes of the historical TV series “Furin Kazan” and “Go”, the theme of the News TV show “Marugoto Yamanashi”, themes of the movies “The Twilight Samurai” (2002) and “Springtime in a Small Town” (2002), recording of the Super-Kabuki theater play “The One WHo Carves the Emptiness”, and much more.

時に優しく、時に情熱的に音楽を通してメッセージを届ける二胡奏者。彼女の二胡の音色は果てしなく切なく、人々の心を揺さぶるパワーを持ち、どこかに置き忘れてきた思い出を甦らせる愁いにあふれている。
中国・蘇州生まれ。上海戯曲学校卒業後、上海越劇院 楽団の首席を務め、1991年来日。 1997年共立女子大学卒業。
2001年にアルバム「I wish -我願-」で脚光を浴び、二胡ブームの火付け役になる。
活動は幅広く、ジャンルを超えたトップ・アーティストたちとのコラボレーションにも積極的に取り組み、演奏活動に加え、ＴＶ番組、映画、舞台音楽のテーマ曲などの演奏、作曲を手掛ける。
代表的な演奏作品はＮＨＫ『スポーツ大陸』エンディングテーマ、大河ドラマ『風林火山』、『江〜姫たちの戦国〜』の紀行のテーマ、『いだてん〜東京オリムピック噺(ばなし)〜』、ニュース番組『まるごと山梨』 (作曲・演奏)、映画音楽『たそがれ清兵衛』、『春の惑い』、『スーパー歌舞伎Ⅱ空ヲ刻ム者』の劇中曲レコーディングに参加など多数。
2011年6月、チェンミン主宰の二胡教室【音楽園（おとらくえん）】～夢を叶える場所～をスタート。
2012年1月、来日20周年を記念し、チェンミンの素顔とヒストリーを紐解くPhoto Bookを刊行。
2015年やまなし大使に就任。
2016年4月20日 来日25周年を迎えた。
