This shady series recap is gonna be a little weird because of the very bizarre and strange rollout mnet is doing for an alleged global series (in other words, you can’t find any English subs after ep 1 yet so I had to fire out the AI and figure out something bc I’ll do anything for i-land 2 scraps). Because of that, this might be more recappy than shady. Also the girls are super sweet so the shade is HARD to find.

Unpretty Rapstar: HIP POP Princess is an mnet survival show reimagining (HEAVILY) the Unpretty Rapstar series (which was GOLD) for a new generation of global teen rappers and performers. Unlike the original this reboot highlights rookie trainees and pre-debut idols in hopes of making a (possibly 10 member) girl group. The show is trying to focus on self-producing idols and the stages including original choreo, rap, styling and remixing. (allegedly—this is mnet after all but come on…14 year olds crafting what are actually really great rookie stages?? okay). Judges include Soyeon, Gaeko, Riehata & Iwata Takanori.
The first two episodes feature the cypher battle and the 1st mission (hip pop challenge) where the girls re-interpret: Wannabe (itzy); Stayc (teddy bear); kiss of life (bad news); i-dle (queencard)
