  2. I think Chopin Committee was unfair. It allowed two contestants to change their performing dates. Kevin Chang and Eric Lu benefited from the committee for their performances. Strictly applied Performing time is the essence of the competitions. For example, Hyuk Lee executed his second round Performance even though he was ill at that time. How could the committee designate the last time for Kevin Chang and postpone the date for Eric Lu due to his health conditons?? The Chopin committee scrutinized the fairness of the competition severely. Shame on the committee and International piano mafia Dang Thai Son.

  7. Totally partial to William Yang. I saw/heard him at the Miami national Chopin competition. After hearing his Polonaise-Fantasy, Op.61, I turned to my husband and said, "We can go home now." He won 😀 I then heard him at Florida Atlantic University as the winner and have the pic to with him afterwards to cherish. But, hey, very high praise for Eric Lu as well!!

  8. They are all
Good ❤, but Kevin Chen ‘s tone and colour are beautiful , like touching right in my heart ❤

  9. Hi, Kevin nice to see you again here and thank you for interviewing Mr. Garrick Ohlsson I deeply respect for his musicianship and integrity. I hope he gets well soon. It helps me a lot, thank you!

  10. For me, at this moment the gold – without any doubt – belongs to Kevin Chen:
I listened again to Kevin and Eric 3-th round. Kevin's playing reflects his beautiful soul, full of kindness and empathy, devoid of ego. I hear beauty and delicacy here, the entire performance is very balanced sonically, very soothing and pleasant to the ear. I recommend listening again without visualization- preferably the entire session. Kevin's playing is pure, honest, and exceptionally musical – exactly what I'm looking for.

That day (Round 3), in my opinion, Kevin's health was weaker, he was sweating heavily, etc., and the pressure might have overwhelmed him a bit. We don't know how he felt—yet he played brilliantly, and considering his age – 20 – phenomenal and sooo mature. And the previous two rounds he was flawless – perhaps we were hoping for stunning results in this round? He simply played calmly, but phenomenally—which the audience in the hall appreciated with a standing ovation.

Unfortunately, Eryk's sound in the first piece was completely wooden, but then the sound improved on the live stream – I don't know what his sound was like in the hall. Eryk is very musical of course, can feel the ambition and passion of a professional pianist in his performance, and can tell he's known the repertoire for a long time, but miss that elusive freshness, empathy and lack of masterful technique. A good recital with a spectacular, fast-paced ending.

This is my opinion for those interested.

    Best regards
