The name Mormon, or Mormonism, was given to us by our enemies.–the Restoration Prophet, Joseph Smith
What do you mean David
Mormon comes from the prophet Mormon the last prophet in the last battle in the Book of Mormon
You guys need to Stop using cult language no religion is a cult
Hey dude the Mormon church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints nuff said
You need to learn how to pronounce Moroni name and his father was Mormon not his uncle silly get on the right track bro or get left behind! 😅
I have found that the only difference between a cult and a religion is whether it is yours or not. Right off the bat I think this guy, like ALL Christians, are viewing things as if they were right and all others are wrong. I can say, from my point of view, this is a horrible way to start anything. Basically, they are starting with an "answer" and then creating the question based off the answer they think is the right one. I lost interest after about 9 minutes and wondered off.
Oh no. You turned in your first draft as your final draft? Or did you even draft anything before recording? If this preview is indicative of the course or the platform as whole, I’d be embarrassed as a creator.
Aside from all the missing context, there are telltale signs that the host hasn’t even attempted to understand Mormonism aside from what other ignorant evangelicals believe.
Moroni (more-own-eye) is the son, not nephew, of Mormon.
How did he manage to confuse Naphtali with Nephite (knee-fight)? Mormon is one of the last Nephite prophets.
Nephites and Lamanites (lame-in-night) are not Jews, but Manassehites. Different tribe of Israel.
Eleven people swore by public statement they saw and handled the plates (not tablets) which had the appearance of gold (it’s never claimed they were solid gold). Three of those witnesses saw and handled the plates AND saw the angel Moroni. Even after some had fallings out with Joseph, not one ever recanted their testimony of the plates, angel, and truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.
Saying Mormons, or any minority religious group, DESERVED violent persecution is disgusting and certainly not what Christ taught.
Joseph and his brother Hyrum were murdered in cold blood, shot dozens of times like fish in a barrel by a Protestant mob at the permission of the Illinois governor. Joseph was murdered at 38, not 35. He went willingly to stand trial in an effort to de-escalate violent tensions leveled against them while the state and federal authorities either ignored or actively encouraged the violence for YEARS.
You don’t have to agree with the framing, but again, if you’re getting such basic things wrong, how can anyone trust you’d get more complex topics right?
I wouldn’t touch this platform with a ten-foot pole.
Protestants are the real anti Biblical cultist, they can't even settle on a Bible yet pretend they believe it's infallible. Mormons stick to King James and can explain their reasons when they are very from it, such as when Jesus warns against anger "without a cause" as it is written in the King James. Joseph Smith taught that was an alteration in the text. Later, with finding earlier copies of the Bew Testament guess wheat, it was so an alteration if thd text.
I have quoted passages in the Bible just to have Evangelicals expkain away those passages. When you have to explain away a passage of the Bible, that means you don't believe in it.
Not really relevant, but you brought it up. The "church of Jesus Christ of latter Day saints" owns a ton of land including that includes agricultural investments as well as all of the obvious things. So if religions own land, than the LDS church would definitely be a religion.
But probably more relevant, your definition of a cult feels reductive. I was curious what core tenants you feel have been rejected, and I am as much atheist as anything else for context, but a cult is typically defined by power/control, and worship of a person. I don't know historically, but having lived in Utah my whole life, I can say modern LDS people do not worship Joseph, they respect him as much as you would any other human religious figure perhaps, but give glory to Jesus not to any man.
They had some shame culture (feels like most members have corrected for this a fair bit in recent decades) and can be a bit sheltered, though from what I've seen, it seems like about 3% as much as Jehovah's Witnesses.
So yeah, I've happily watched videos that were critical of the religion, this video just felt inaccurate and reductive, just sort of reducing non Orthodox stuff as "cults" and not really getting the history particularly great (it's not completely inaccurate, but it's skewed and imperfect). I probably recommend Johnny Harris or Heliocentric to someone wanting a more fair or accurate review of the LDS religion, that doesn't agree with the religions but has more history with the religion to know it, or that has put more effort into understanding it. This guy feels more like vindication for those who wish to play "holier than thou". First video I've seen from this channel, sorry if I got incorrect impressions.
This is a very poor misrepresentation of my faith.
So called experts who know little of the subject matter outside of your own blinkered interpretation.
Shameful
And if you represent Christianity then the shame is yours.
Introducing the cult of "anti-mormonism". If you want to know what we believe, just ask. We're not shy about sharing. I've yet to hear a critic of the Church ever explain my beliefs correctly. They just can't get it right, bless their hearts.
