Ya’át’ééh! Aaron Tsosie here — the person behind the camera!
This video features the Chicken Dance Special honoring Zee Jay Begay at the Standing Horse Route 66 Pow Wow 2025 in Winslow, Arizona. It was a powerful special, and I’m really glad I was there to capture it.
If you’ve never seen a Chicken Dance before, it’s a style that comes from the Northern Plains — inspired by the prairie chicken and how they move during mating season. Dancers use sharp footwork, bouncing steps, and quick movements to show how alert and aware the bird is. It’s one of my favorite categories and I always love a good chicken dance song!
This was one of the many specials from the weekend, and I’ll be uploading more soon — so be sure to check them out on my channel.
Thanks for watching, and congrats again to Zee Jay and everyone who danced!
